CTO (CALGARY)

We are looking for a competent CTO who will be our first technology go-to expert and play an integral role in setting the company’s strategic direction, development, and future growth of Virtual Gurus. In this position, you will oversee our overall technology development and technology utilization plan and manage all the information technology resources of our company.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop technical aspects of the company’s strategy to ensure alignment with its business goals
  • Discover and implement new technologies that yield competitive advantage
  • Help all other departments use technology profitably
  • Supervise system infrastructure to ensure functionality and efficiency
  • Build quality assurance and data protection processes
  • Monitor KPIs and IT budgets to assess technological performance
  • Use stakeholders’ feedback to inform necessary improvements and adjustments to technology
  • Communicate technology strategy to partners and investors
  • Manage and mentor our full-stack developer(s)
  • Manage a growth tech roadmap
  • Ensuring all technology practices adhere to regulatory standards.
  • Maintaining a consumer-focused outlook and aiding in the delivery of projects to market.
  • Make executive decisions regarding our company’s tech needs.

 

Required Skills:

  • Must be able to translate the needs of the business into actionable development plans
  • Previous work experience as a Chief Technology Officer or another similar leadership role
  • Minimum of five years’ experience
  • BSc or BA in Computer Science, Engineering, or another similar field
  • MBA or similarly relevant graduate degree would be an asset

Senior Full Stack Developer (CALGARY)

We’re looking for an awesome individual to kickstart our in-house development team.  

It’s time for the Gurus to bring our development team in house! Our Marketplace and askBetty products are the technology cornerstones of the Virtual Gurus service offerings. The in-house dev team will be integral to making the technology hum so we can continue scaling. Responsibilities:

  • Talking to the business to understand objectives and translate business requirements into technical scope
  • Evaluate feature feasibility and project timelines by identifying priorities, rabbit holes and interdependencies
  • Debug issues as they arise, make recommendations for solutions
  • Design systems architecture, including infrastructure that enables continuous integration and delivery, or maintaining and adding new functionality to existing applications
  • Write clean, scalable code while maintaining standards of security, reliability, performance, and quality
  • Oversee QA procedures to ensure solid code is deployed to production
  • Develop internal processes, hire and lead a new team of developers; collaborate closely with existing contract team
  • Actively learning and seeking out ways to continuously improve, researching best practices and suggest appropriate technologies

 

Required Technical Skills:

  • Front End: Vue.js (with veutify framework)
  • Backend: node.js (with express.js)
  • Database: SQL, with extra points for specific experience in Amazon Aurora
  • Version Control: github
  • Infrastructure: Amazon AWS (EC2, Cloudfront, S3)
  • Basic linux knowledge is key
  • Payment processing: Stripe

Virtual Assistant Success Manager (CALGARY)

We’re looking for an awesome individual to join our team of virtual assistant success managers.

Virtual Assistant Success Managers are a key piece of the team. They are on the front line of attracting, vetting, onboarding and retaining the top talent that makes Virtual Gurus tick. The VSM team works closely with sales, making sure we have the talent they need to support our clients, and with the client success team to make sure the VAs and clients are happy in the long term. Responsibilities:

  • Attract and retain high-quality Virtual Assistants in Canada and the United States
  • Develop and deliver best-in-class orientation procedures to onboard new VAs, setting them up for success in their partnership with Virtual Gurus, and as their own independent small business
  • Promote a supportive and mutually beneficial environment by being welcoming and encouraging to all VAs
  • Create a high-performance culture by fostering and encouraging an inclusive and supportive network among the VAs and the Virtual Gurus team
  • Foster loyalty among and between the VAs and Virtual Gurus
  • Act as the main point of contact for new and existing VAs
  • Accurately maintain all ongoing metrics, as is required by management and the Board of Directors
  • Act as the voice of the VAs to management and the Client Success Managers (CSMs)
  • From time to time, assist the CSMs in client retention efforts
  • Attend and participate in various meetings with internal teams
  • Attend and participate in various community events, workshops, lunch-and-learns, etc.
  • Attend job fairs to promote Virtual Gurus as a partner of choice for virtual assistants
  • Other duties as required

 

Required Skills:

  • Two to four years of talent acquisition and retention experience
  • Strong understanding of the gig economy
  • Knowledge of Federal laws regarding contract workers
  • Strong organizational, planning, decision-making, and time management skills
  • Previous experience working with contractors or entrepreneurs an asset
  • Ability to lead and coach the Virtual Assistants (VAs) as they submit their applications and begin to work for clients
  • Comfortable with attending community events to represent Virtual Gurus and speak with potential VAs or clients
  • Ability to work and perform well under pressure, meet deadlines, and juggle competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills and drive to work collaboratively
  • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills combined with excellent customer service and demonstrated leadership abilities
  • Must demonstrate excellent problem solving, critical thinking, and innovative skills
  • Passionate about, and interested in, startups and the process of growing a business
  • Comfortable with the unfamiliar with a keen attitude and a willingness to explore areas outside of your area of expertise

Manager of Strategic Partnerships (CALGARY)

Our entire sales department is laser-focused on building relationships with clients and partners alike. We’re looking for a highly intelligent, strategically-minded professional who understands the art of negotiation in order to build long-term, successful relationships with partners. Reporting to the Director of Sales, the Manager of Strategic Partnerships would engage in both inbound and outbound partnership opportunities which present Virtual Gurus with opportunities for revenue growth. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop new partnership opportunities across Canada and the US through inbound and outbound methods
  • Protect and build the Virtual Gurus brand by curating partnerships with organizations aligned to our core values
  • Build and maintain relationships with partners who meet our partnership criteria, working with partners to create synergy, develop opportunities and solve issues
  • Develop and manage creative co-marketing opportunities, content plans and calendars, working with internal and external marketing teams to grow awareness of the Virtual Gurus brand 
  • Craft and manage new partnership programs designed to engage our partners and increase inbound leads to be funnelled to the sales team
  • Analyze, track and report on partner initiatives, forecast for strategic changes and report on key metrics, including revenue targets and partner performance
  • Attend trade shows, conferences, and networking events
  • Stay up-to-date on news and industry trends in the sales, tech and freelancing worlds.

 

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Should already have a business network to build on
  • Completed post-secondary in business or related area of study
  • 5+ years of experience in business strategy, B2B partnership development and/or sales with a proven track record
  • Exceptional interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills
  • Great problem-solving skills while being detail-oriented
  • You have a sense of business-savvy and are relentlessly organized with the ability to forecast and preemptively solve issues before they become problems
  • You are self-motivated with an entrepreneurial drive and have no problem adapting to change, hitting targets and deadlines, and being a driving force for growth
  • You know how to craft a great proposal and can negotiate mutually-beneficial contract terms between parties to unlock incredible opportunities

Our sales team takes a highly consultative approach to selling. We’re looking for a highly intelligent, inside sales professional who understands the art of listening to and solving customers’ problems. We engage our inbound requests through a combination of phone, chat, and email.  

Essential duties and responsibilities

  • Build relationships with assigned clients/leads and potential partnerships
  • Seek out and build relationships with potential clients, building your own lead list
  • Manage partnerships across Canada and the United States
  • Seek opportunities to increase CLTV

Marketing Manager (CALGARY)

We’re looking for an awesome individual to join our team to manage Virtual Gurus’ brands: Virtual Gurus, Virtual Gurus Academy and askBetty.

Our primary marketing channels are digital: website (don’t judge, it’s currently going through a major transformation), search engine marketing, digital paid ads, blogging, social media and email marketing. We also manage a number of speaking requests and media inquiries.

This role is for you, if:

You love to write, create engaging content and connect with people online. You’re agile, love dipping your toes into all facets of marketing and can easily handle multiple brands as a solo-marketer. You thrive on small teams, are self-motivated and love nothing more than a meaty challenge you can sink your teeth into.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Develop and execute the overall marketing strategies for Virtual Gurus, Virtual Gurus Academy and askBetty
  • Manage copy and creative for paid digital advertising campaigns, primarily on Google and Facebook. Experience buying digital media would be a nice-to-have
  • Create and manage a digital content calendar that includes blogging, email marketing, social media, virtual events, speaking engagements and more
  • Create written and visual content for promotions, blogging, email marketing and social media
  • Manage and regularly engage social media users on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn.
  • Manage the marketing budget including tracking expenses, monitoring ROI, and preparing reports
  • Stay up-to-date on news and industry trends in the tech and freelancing worlds

What you need for this role:

  • 3-5 years of professional digital marketing experience in a fast-paced startup/scaleup environment
  • Post-secondary education in a Marketing-related field
  • Working knowledge of digital marketing tools and analytics
  • Must have strong understanding of SEO and SEM 
  • Must have ability to develop content – writing, editing images
  • Adaptable to change while being a driving force of growth
